Time to wrangle the wrapping paper and untangle the bows.
Simplify this holiday chore with my top 5 tips for wrapping gifts.

Tip #1

Stick with neutral wrapping materials and avoid over-purchasing. I like to buy gift wrap that is solid in color so that it can be used for a variety of occasions. I especially like the simple brown kraft paper. It’s fun to dress up with ribbons, bows, stamps, or drawings. My kids love drawing right on the wrapped gifts to help personalize the packages for each recipient.

Tip #2

Splurge on heavy-duty wrapping paper. Save yourself a lot of frustration and wasted scraps. High quality wrapping paper is much easier to work with. Plus, you’ll avoid unwanted rips and tears before the gift gets in the hands of the recipient.

Tip #3

Instead of greeting cards, purchase boxes of blank cards and gift tags and fill them in with my your own messages and drawings. It makes those cards so much more personal and special for the recipient. (If you’re stumped for ideas, Google ‘holiday greetings’ and ‘Christmas drawing tutorials’.)

Tip #4

‘Color code’ your gift wrap. Do you have multiple Christmas parties to attend, each with their own set of gifts to be given? Choose different wrapping paper or bows in different colors to distinguish which gifts get taken along to which party—Gold bows go to Aunt Bethany’s. Green ribbons go to Cousin Eddie’s. Red wrapping paper gets put under the Christmas tree.

Tip #5

Those empty Christmas storage bins make a great place to stash all the gifts you want to keep hidden until Christmas morning. Our bins are stored on shelves and can’t be opened unless taken down, so I can rest assured there’s no peeking happening here.

I’d like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas!
