How to Organize Gift Wrap

The decorations are up, the gifts are purchased, it’s time to start wrapping! Gift wrapping supplies can be tricky to keep organized. Are you tired of tattered and torn wrapping paper? Tired of never knowing if you have tissue paper for this, or a bag for that? I was, too! I had ‘wrapping paper organizer’ on my Christmas list for years and I’m pretty sure my husband thought I was kidding, because I never did receive one. Well, I managed to find my own solution! In this post, I’ll share some of my favorite ways to get the wrapping supplies organized.

Step 1: Gather the Supplies

Wrapping paper, gift bags, boxes, gift tags, and bows should all be stored together to make wrapping easy. To save yourself from running all around the house collecting supplies, be sure to also store tape, scissors, pens, and cards with your wrapping supplies.

Step 2: Assess the Damage

Toss out any items too damaged to use—torn wrapping paper, crinkled gift bags, frayed bows and ribbons.

Step 3: Create a Storage Solution

There are a lot of products on the market for organizing gift wrapping supplies, but they are not all created equal. Some storage methods don’t provide ample storage space or adequately protect your wrapping materials—you end up with torn edges causing wasted product and more frequent trips to the store. Here are my top 3 picks for keeping gift wrap protected and easy to manage…

Craft Storage Cart

This cart creates a great little storage space for all your gift wrapping needs. There’s space for wrapping paper rolls, drawers for all your wrapping supplies, dowel rods for keeping ribbons tidy, even shelf space for gift boxes and bags. The wheels make this the perfect portable gift wrap station. When it’s time to wrap, just roll this cart right next to your work surface.

Craft Room Rack

This storage system is great if you’re tight on space. It can be installed on a wall or door. The components that make up the system are adjustable, so you get a customized fit that’s sure to fit your needs. This system will keep all your wrapping supplies easy to see and accessible.

Create-Your-Own

It started by accident. An old changing table was being stored in the basement and one day, I tossed a roll of wrapping paper on it—light bulb. This could make a great gift wrapping station! A few bins and storage drawers later and my dream of owning a wrapping paper organizer came true. There’s ample space for everything I need. The wrapping paper rolls lay flat, keeping them from snagging or getting torn edges. Added bonus, I spent $0 and repurposed something that was just taking up storage space.

Perhaps you have something that could work in this same way! An old dresser? A chest of drawers? Add in some drawer dividers and organizing bins. If needed, mount a bin or basket to the side for storing wrapping paper rolls. Viola!
