How to Organize Your Pantry
/When it comes to home organizing projects, pantries are our most requested space. An organized pantry has so many benefits. Proper organization allows you to make the most of your storage space. Maintaining an organized pantry prevents overbuying and minimizes expired foods. Proper organizing solutions allow you to easily identify ingredients and track when products are getting low. A well-organized pantry may inspire you to eat healthy and cook at home more. Of course, it looks great, too!
Step 1: Space Plan
Remove all items from the shelving. Discard any expired or unwanted products. Group items into categories—canned goods, baking supplies, snacks, grains, dinner kits, etc. This will help you assess your specific storage needs.
Create a layout that works for your space and family. We recommend storing your most frequently used products on the easy-to-reach middle shelves. Heavy items, like canned goods, work best stored near the floor. High shelves are great for backstock and infrequently used products, like seasonal baking items and party supplies.
Step 2: Shop Storage Solutions
Measure each shelf—width, depth, and height. This will help you select organizing materials that best fit your space.
Decanting into clear canisters is a great way to maximize storage space (by removing bulky packaging) and track stock (by allowing you to see how much is on hand at a glance). Bins and baskets are ideal for grouping similar items together and preventing cluttered shelves.
Be sure to shop for organizing products that are functional and fit your style. This will help keep you motivated to maintain the order. Shop some of our favorites below!
Step 3: Organize & Label
Use your space plan as a guide for putting together your organized pantry.
When decanting, use a chalk marker to note expiration dates on the bottom of the canister. For items needing cooking instructions, cut the info from the original packaging and tape it inside the lid of the canister.
Label baskets and bins to easily identify where items belong and help encourage maintaining the organization.
