Organizing Hacks for Charging Cords

A reader submitted the following question:

Do you have any good ideas for organizing cords. We have all these charger cords and random adapters...baskets full. People are always digging through them.... I’m pretty sure the issue is that I’m the only person who rewinds up and secures the cords in the baskets, but maybe there is something easier for them to consistently stick with so it doesn’t end up as a big tangled mess!

Step 1

Collect and untangle all of your charging cords, earbuds, power adapters, and the like. Lay them all out so you can see exactly what you have.

Step 2

Get rid of anything that is no longer necessary!

I had earbuds and power cords from every phone and tablet we have ever owned. Plus, about a million (give or take) “giveaway” earbuds. Oh, and, all those charging adapters because tech companies can’t seem to have mercy on us and make everything universal.

Step 3

Now that all the cords, earbuds, and adapters you NEED are laid out nice and neat in front of you, tally up just how many cords need to be corralled—this will help you plan the best storage method for your needs and space.

Now, let’s talk about the best methods to store cords. I have a few different ideas and product recommendations—pick the one that works best for you!

Bamboo drawer bins are perfect for organizing cords within a drawer. Each bin is sold individually so you can customize the layout to best fit your space and needs. Have a deep drawer? These bins can stack to double your storage space!

If you are needing to store cords in a cabinet or on a shelf, these eyeglass drawers would be an excellent option. This organizer would hold 6 cords tangle-free, but these units stack, so you can seamlessly add on additional storage.

These wooden bins look great on an open shelf, countertop space, or even tucked within a cabinet. The best part — they have smaller, coordinating organizers that fit perfectly inside to create a custom, categorized storage solution.

These eyeglass cases are great for keeping cords tangle-free whether stored in a basket or in your bag. Add labels to help make your cords quick to identify.
